Starkbierfest

Image
Literally, it stands for "Strong beer festival". Strong beer was brewed by the monks during the fasting period so they don't have to, well, fast. This website gives an interesting overview of what the festival is: http://www.toytownmunich.com/wiki/Starkbierfest I went there last Saturday at 8 p.m. and people were already starting to get kicked out. To be fair, it opens at about 11 a.m. and finishes at 11 p.m. Here are some photos of the celebration at the Paulaner Keller. They've got quite a funny website too, which is available in English as well. http://www.paulaner.de/ "Which one is my beer?" She is carrying only 6 empty masses. I saw one carrying 8 full ones. Impressive. Drinking, dancing and live band.

Snow Photos

Image
While the last traces of snow has all but disappeared from the Munich landscape in the last week, thanks to warm spring weather and rain, I have these photos from my mobile phones that I took only about 2 weeks ago. Too much snow considering it was almost spring. This is usually a railway track. Apparently the trains ran but I don't know how. The next day was a Sunday, and all trains and trams which ran above the ground were suspended. Playing in deep snow, outside my balcony.
